The three rules of an ADHD-friendly desk

Rule one: out of sight is gone forever. Plans live in drawers at their peril — an open planner or visible board beats any app you have to remember to open. Rule two: restless hands need a sanctioned outlet, or they’ll find the unsanctioned ones (tabs, snacks, doom-scroll). Keep a quiet fidget in arm’s reach.

Rule three: lower the cost of starting. The desk’s job is to make the first thirty seconds of work as close to zero-effort as possible — today’s three tasks already written, the right page already open, the distractions already elsewhere.

A minimal starter setup

You need less than the productivity influencers say: one daily planner that takes a minute to fill in, one silent fidget for calls and thinking, and one ritual that marks “work is starting” — same mug, same playlist, same three-line plan.

The Desk Reset Kit bundles the paper side of this. Add a quiet fidget from the work-safe collection and you’ve covered hands and plans for under £30 — everything else is decoration.

Everything here is an everyday tool, not a treatment — many people find these products helpful, but they’re not a substitute for professional support.

Common questions

What actually helps ADHD focus at a desk?

Visible plans (open planner, wall chart), a quiet outlet for restless hands, fewer choices per moment, and a consistent start ritual. Many people find these lower the activation energy of starting — which is usually the hard part.

Should my desk be minimal or stimulating?

Whichever direction is yours: some ADHD brains need visual quiet, others need interest to stay in the chair. The constant is that plans must be visible and fidgets reachable — the decoration level is personal.

What’s the single best first purchase?

A daily planner you’ll actually fill in — it externalises the plan, which is the thing working memory keeps dropping. Pair it with any silent fidget and you’ve addressed the two most common desk struggles.

Do these work for home and office?

Yes — everything here is deliberately office-appropriate: quiet fidgets, ordinary-looking stationery, nothing that requires explaining at the Monday stand-up.
